Policy about the inspection of maintenance 2019

09 januari 2020

Summary

In this memorandum the policy is published about the inspection of maintenance of a variety in agricultural crops or vegetable crops. The maintainer has the obligation to maintain the varieties which are included in the Dutch Variety Register NRR, according to the regulations for systematic maintenance of such a variety. De (Dutch) Board for plant varieties (the Board) is supervising this process. The maintainer has the obligation to maintain the variety unaltered during its whole life cycle.

Maintenance inspection horticultural crops

For horticultural crops (especially vegetable crops) the inspection on maintenance in the Netherlands takes place according to the procedure in the inspection regulation document established by Naktuinbouw.

Maintenance inspection agricultural crops

For agricultural crops the inspection on maintenance in the Netherlands takes place according to the procedure in the inspection regulation document established by NAK.

The current policy has been strengthened in such a way that – when a systematic maintenance of a variety cannot be demonstrated – the variety will be removed from the Dutch Variety Register NRR.

Costs for maintenance control for varieties which are maintained outside the Netherlands

The financing of the maintenance control in the Netherlands is based on full cost recovery. For varieties in de Dutch Variety Register NRR which are maintained outside the Netherlands, extra effort is needed to control the maintenance. For this reason, a yearly (cost-recovering) fee will be charged. If this fee has not been paid, the maintenance control cannot be carried out. Therefore, in case of lack of payment, the variety will be removed from the Dutch Variety Register NRR.
